Overview

Granite State Gymnastics is partnering with Ciel Rouge Moving Company to offer 3 exciting new classes:  Parkour, Aerial Dance, and Design in Motion Studio. Rolling enrollment will continue through December with a 12 week spring session to start in January.  Call Granite State Gymnastics at 228-8424 to sign-up now.  Each of these classes seeks to offer an artistic, non-competitive way to seek fitness for adults and school age children 9 and older alike.

Parkour will be offered Friday nights from 7:30 to 8:30 PM.  Parkour or l’art du deplacement is a unique discipline of urban origin.  Participants run “obstacle routes” jumping, climbing, dropping and rolling.  Efficiency is paramount as well as conditioning to avoid injury.  Parkour is usually practiced outdoors without spectators, though many gymnasiums like Granite State Gymnastics offer training space for conditioning and practice overcoming obstacles.

Beginning Aerial Dance will be offered on Sundays from 3:30 to 4:30 PM.  Classes will focus on introducing aerial vocabulary as well as proper conditioning and technique.  Safety and rigging as well as applications of aerial dance will also be covered. Students will make progress on the trapeze and fabric at their own pace.  As individuals become more proficient the class will be divided to allow for more specialized instruction.

Design in Motion Studio “art for physical people” will be offered Sundays 4:30 to 6:00 PM. It is a non-competitive, physical and artistic program designed for all skill levels.  Class time will be divided between technique and performance skills.  Physical topics will include acrobatic conditioning, inversions, partner balances, tumbling, and aerial elements.  Performance technique will be explored and developed through various physical theater, character and movement exercises.  Prior athletic, gymnastic, circus or dance training is helpful, but not required.  This is a creative class.  Students should come prepared to use their bodies and their imaginations.  Twelve week sessions will culminate with a performance.
